Heal the Living is the Closing Night Film of the 2017 Sacramento French Film Festival.
Everything begins in the early morning, with three young surfers enjoying the ragged waves in a spectacular, dreamlike, and meditative opening sequence. A few hours later, on the way back, is a tragic car accident. Now, attached to machines in a hospital in Le Havre, Simon is in an irreversible coma and his devastated parents (Emmanuelle Seigner and rapper Kool Shen) must come to terms with letting go of their son, who still looks so alive in his hospital bed.

Meanwhile, in Paris, Claire (Anne Dorval), a woman in her fifties, is patiently waiting, surrounded by her two devoted young adult sons, for the providential heart transplant that will prolong her life.

Between the two are teams of doctors and medical experts (Tahar Rahim, Samba - SFFF 2015; Bouli Lanners, Le Grand Soir - SFFF 2013, Louise Michel - SFFF 2010) whose everyday struggle is to save lives. They couldn’t save Simon's life, but his heart can save Claire’s, and Heal the Living follows the collective process that will link Simon and Claire forever. Ultimately, the film tells the tale of how we are all interconnected in the beauty and fragility of life. Spiritually and literally, Heal the Living plunges into the depths of the human heart.
Heal the Living is Katell Quillévéré's third feature. Her second film, Suzanne, was presented at the SFFF in 2014.
